Yes the fields are still relatively small and yes the ground is still far from ideal for the majority of the horses, but whether you like it or not the jumps are now in full swing with eyes already glaring forwards to March and you know what. There’s a long way to go before this and dozens of horses will break through on days similar to today at tracks such as Lingfield and Huntingdon. At HA, we thought Robinshill was overpriced Monday evening at 5/1 and so were were proven right to our wallets delight. A brilliant ride from Jamie Bargary, it must be said.

2 20 ROBINSHILL (N Twiston-Davies) 100/30, C2 H’Cap Hurdle, 2M, Good
Huntingdon put out some decent prize money for the 2 20 and low and behold we were treated to a competitive race, as a few of the big boys chased the 15K pot up for grabs over the minimum hurdles trip. The Skeltons’ had a 140 rated French horse, Optimus Prime, in the mix that ran well but just didn’t have the speed required to challenge in the home straight. As discussed, we thought the 127 mark was still very kind on Robinshill following his Wetherby run and the 5YO brought home the bacon. It was a scrappy run admittedly, but winning like that may encourage connections more than a fluent win – showing them there is plenty more still to work on. If he can become a confident jumper that travels smoother in his middle part of the race, he certainly has the speed to challenge a grade or two up. His mark may not be so kind next run, but that doesn’t mean his progress will be squashed just yet. They won’t rush this horse, but will be keen to look for as good a surface as is available.
