Newmarket 4 25 SHADY MCCOY (I Williams) 15/2
His poor run last time out has cost him more support this afternoon, but I’m more than happy to draw a line through it and concentrate on the previous two efforts. These are by far the strongest form on offer in a weak looking Class 2. Punters may also be doubting the ground for the 7YO, but he’s won on soft before and has run respectably on good to soft on numerous occasions. The yard is slightly out of form, but the Will Buick booking has to be seen as a plus. The Godolphin jockey has won on Shady McCoy before, from only two attempts – the other a second. Khamaary is top of the market and very unexposed but this is another step up and he should be winning races like his last run at Musselburgh if still massively improving. Plus, he’s up another 4lb just for that run.
Nottingham 4 35 SOCIALITES RED (S Dixon) 9/2
A simple pick really. He holds solid course and distance form and the cut in ground is no issue whatsoever, compared to many in the field. Another 2lb rise is due next week so he holds that over the handicapper. He may be vulnerable to an improver but should go very close on previous runs. He rarely runs a poor race and is EW value if you fancy, he will be for me.
Newbury 7 25 BOYCIE (R Hannon) 8/1
Boycie is in the best form of his career and there’s definitely more to come off this mark. The form of the 4YO’s last two efforts have played out very well and at 8/1 I’d be very surprised to see him out of the frame. A number of unexposed runners pose an obvious threat, but not all are going to deliver. There’s further improvement left in this colt and although the 3YOs get the allowances and could have much more to offer, I’d rather side with the solid form in the book at this level.
