There’s plenty of racing to get stuck into on the flat today and I’ve come up with three selections. One from Thirsk this afternoon and then two from Windsor, where it’s a busy evening with racing from Ayr and Leicester as well.
Thirsk 4.00 – KENSTONE (A Wintle) 10/1
There’s one simple reason for this pick, he’s 9lbs lower than his AW mark and has found some remarkable improvement since joining this yard on the AW surface. He has no form whatsoever on turf; but, when tried on turf previously he’s had relatively little success on the AW either. Now that’s changed I’m more than willing to take a chance at 10s in a weak race. Hollie Doyle has won on the 4YO three times and has never been lower than third on him. It’s a gamble on the grass, but one I’m happy to take…
Windsor 5.40 – LETHAL LUNCH (R Hannon) 7/2
The opener at Windsor has a small field of five, with the top three all holding serious claims. The favourite, Nine Below Zero, is too short under a 6lb penalty and the race he won has not been backed up at all just yet. He could prove useful, but there’s little indication of this for now and I’m happy to pass up today. Choice Encounter has had three goes at winning in similar races and despite going close hasn’t got his head in front. That leaves us Lethal Lunch at 7/2. He was heavily backed in debut at this track but didn’t deliver, finishing 7th. Yet, he was only 5L off the winner and the race has thrown up winners from further down the field. He should come on plenty for his debut where he never looked at home. Richard Hannon in the first at Windsor is always a good route to follow as well.
Windsor 8.10 – AWESOME ALLAN (D Evans) 10/1
He’s been heavily backed overnight in a wide open race. He was 25/1 yesterday and is now into 10s at best, I just wish I’d posted this much earlier! The 4YO is inconsistent but won’t mind the rain due to engulf Windsor all afternoon and is back at 78, only 1lb higher than his Nottingham win. The run at Chester was no disgrace, as he hit plenty of trouble in running after breaking well and looking the winner for a while. Nothing looks strong at the top of the market and at the odds is worth an EW dart. He also enjoys Windsor and has finished first and third across two starts here.
