Today’s racing on the flat comes from Nottingham, Ayr and Beverley, with a pick from Scotland and one from Beverley. Nottingham has two good races, with Another Touch a solid favourite in the Class 2 Handicap. His recent York and Newbury form by far the strongest in the field. The Listed Nottinghamshire Oaks looks like Sir Michael Stoute’s to lose with Playful Sound another short-priced favourite you’d expect to win given the opposition – although; Alf Guineas looks over-priced and continues to shorten.
Beverley 4.30 – Monsieur Glory (T Clover) 11/4
An unusually short price for one of our picks, but there’s still some value there given the race. He ran a solid race on his seasonal reappearance on stable debut and remains off 70. 10F has brought the best results and Tom Clover looks to have a great chance of getting only his second ever win as a trainer. Stall four gives the 4YO a decent draw which is important at Beverley, even over longer distances.
Ayr 7.10 – Vallarta (R Carr) 13/2
The EW odds with a field of eight convinced me here. The couple at the top of the market are unexposed but I’d be surprised if they both found much more. Vallarta is very consistent and got his head in front last time, only going up 2lbs in the process. The second from that race, and stablemate, has gone onto win well. The ground may not be as quick as desired, but far from a big worry for the 7YO. He should be fresh again after three weeks off and I’m confident the gelding will be in the frame.
