We finished in profit again yesterday thanks to both EW bets placing. The Warrior was never getting to the winner, Gossiping, who still looks well ahead of the handicapper and looks likely to take in some bigger races – the Wokingham at Ascot distinctly possible. Ghinia ran a good race to finish third, albeit being held up just too long despite the low draw and prominent start.
Mori was the surprise star at Goodwood and ran on very well, showing bundles of stamina and potential class when landing the Listed Fashion Stakes. Icespire who was all the rage until late in the day (from me included) ran no race, and must have more to show. Shady McCoy is worth a place in your tracker after an unlucky fourth yesterday. He missed the break and had no luck in running, showing the Ascot run was no one off. If he’s any sort of price next time in a similar event and the handicapper doesn’t take any action he’ll be worth a bet.
Big Orange stamped his class all over the Group 3 Henry II Stakes and looks in peak form heading into his more important assignments. He made all with ease as nothing even got into the race, as Frankie dictated from the front. Quest For More will be back, it just wasn’t a going day for him.
Goodwood 2.35 – Russian Soul (J Osborne) 13/2
I can’t take a few of the fancied runners in this competitive handicap at Goodwood and think Russian Soul should be a clear favourite. The 9YO has a near plum draw in stall three and is still 7lbs below his AW mark on which he has been competitive in stronger races than this. His run on turf last time throws out the argument he’s restricted to the AW these days. The front pair, Gin In The Inn, were well clear of the field and Richard Fahey’s runner is vastly improving and a very good yardstick for recent form. You’ll need some luck as always at Goodwood, and the only concern is that his usual hold-up style may have to be altered today.
