Johnny Og A Step Above At Stratford

As the weekend action gets closer, Thursday threw up a couple of nice races over the jumps at both Stratford and Sedgefield. The All Weather Championships started up at Lingfield to keep fans of the flat happy, and the two Listed heats were taken nicely by Muffri’Ha for William Haggas under a penalty and Bess Of Hardwick for Luca Cumani.

4 30 JOHNNY OG (M Keighley) 11/2, C3 H’Cap Chase, 2M3.5F, Good

In the deepest race on the card, it was the 7YO trained by Martin Keighley that take home the spoils in good fashion, despite a scare at the seventh. The race was run at a good pace and Andrew Tinkler kept his mount close to this, before taking control before the last and never looking back. The race was an open affair but Johnny Og was a league above in current form. He looks a tricky character, but on his day can be very useful – proven by his last three runs, when making it round, all ending in victories. He was thrown into the big time at Cheltenham where he fell, but this alone shows how connections hold him in good light. We can see this one moving into a Listed heat in the not too distant future and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see him making an impact.
