Step Up In Trip Works A Treat

Exeter held the only jumps card on Tuesday and the two odds-on favourites of Drumlee Sunset and Old Guard were the main attractions on the card. Both won, but not in the convincing fashion many expected. Old Guard was a talented hurdler for Paul Nicholls but is taking his time taking to the fences. But who knows, it could all of a sudden just click one afternoon. The star of the show however was Lambourn trainer Jamie Snowden’s new chaser Fact Of The Matter.

3 10: FACT OF THE MATTER (J Snowden) 9/2, C3 H’Cap Chase, 3M, Good

Although admittedly a bit of a slow day, it was Jamie Snowden’s Fact Of The Matter that continued his smart progress over the fences at Exeter. A further step up in trip brought out further improvement, as the 6YO jumped steadily but smoothly the entire trip and his stamina was certainly not questioned. He sat in cosily until a few out, before he took control of the race and never looked back staying on nicely to the line. You would think his mark will be raised close to the 120 mark, with chasing certainly bringing out the best in this horse. Under more pressure and amongst a better class of rivals we will definitely still see further progress, with more still to come for this steady improver.
