Friday 7 October -Just Another G1 For You Know Who

The Rowley Mile took centre stage on Friday, with a cracking card to start of the weekend. There were four Group races to kick the day off, with the Old Rowley Cup and a Listed heat to round off the card in style. It was a relief at the end of a quiet week to be honest and there were a number of nice winners, even if it proved a tricky day for punters. Newton Abbot also held a top card over the jumps as the National Hunt season really begins to warm up. The Skelton’s teamed up once again on Virgilio who in a small field it must be said, probably delivered the run of the day here. At HA we had a up and down day, but ended in profit thanks to Unforgettable Filly running into third advised at a big EW price.

3 10 RHODODENDRON (A O’Brien) 5/2, Group 1 2YO Fillies, 1M, Good to Firm

In a race billed as an early preview of some well fancied 1000 Guineas chances, that man AOB once again stole the show, adding yet another G1 to this remarkable summer. The fillies finished well spread out – unusual for a race of this calibre – and there were some major disappointments in Sobetsu and Spatial with very little in the way of excuses. It shows that juveniles with Group form should always be respected over horses that romped home in a sole maiden by 10L. Rhododendron was well backed throughout the morning, showing those in the know knew she was up to a race such as this despite going under the radar for much of the year. She has looked best on quick ground, but has still managed to reel in a G2 on soft showcasing her talent further. She now stands as the favourite for the 1000, but connections were quick to point out she could easily get 10F, interesting…
