The anticipation around the return of racing to Hereford was finally released on Thursday, and punters flocked through the door to support the track. A crowd of over 4000 submerged upon Hereford and were rewarded with a host of big fielded, competitive and good quality races on sunny autumnal afternoon. The opening race over hurdles attracted some eye catching entries and was won in good style by our feature horse of the day. As for HA, our one selection the day came up trumps and although went off the 7/2 favourite, was readily available all day at 6s and even 7s the evening before.
2 00 RATHER BE (N Henderson) 1/2, C4 Novice Hurdle, 2M, Good
In a race with plenty of attention surrounding it for obvious reasons, a host of renowned trainers threw in some exciting types to kick the day off. Rather Be spoilt the party however, and completely stole the show, winning at an eased down 7L plus. The field was very strung out come the final stages, something you would associate with a race such as this. However, what this does show is that the race contains a few good ones as well and we think this may be the case in a couple of months time. Nicky Henderson can only be encouraged by the start Rather Be has made in this campaign. He was always promising last winter throughout a number of bumpers, including at the Festival finishing a respectable 9 of 23. Henderson will be hoping to find that extra gear this season to get competitive in better quality company.
