Friday 12 August – Runs of the Day

Friday was all about a certain Frankie Dettori, after he belatedly brought up his 3000th winner in Britain. Aboard John Gosden’s Predilection, Dettori rode to victory at Newmarket in front of a sold out crowd, something he had been targeting for a couple of weeks now. No matter your opinion on Frankie, there can be no denying the mark of achievement reached yesterday evening. Our ‘Run of the Day’ however, comes from Newbury; where another remarkable story continued.

Newbury:

3 55 MRS DANVERS (J Portman) 5/2, C1 Listed 2YO, 5F, Good to Firm (Good in Places)

Mrs Danvers

The rags to riches story continues with this bargain buy winning once again. Jonathan Portman’s star 2YO filly again came out victorious at Newbury and although the purse may not be as generous, the class of race was definitely an upgrade. She goes four from four now and all left you with a serious impression. It’s brilliant to see a terrific horse such as Mrs Danvers away from the big time owner and trainer combinations, and makes the story even sweeter. She goes on any ground and although the horse owes nothing to connections, you can’t help but feel the fun hasn’t ended yet.
