Monday 1 August – Runs of the Day

There were four meetings to kickstart August, all on the flat as the Jumps teams began their official ‘break’ as it is referred to. Ripon and Kempton (Aw) raced through the afternoon with a pair of fairly low-key cards, before Windsor and Carlisle took the evening shift.. Carlisle held its meeting for lady jockeys only, whilst at Windsor the rain threatened to spoil the party, but officials were content and a delay was all that was required.

Windsor:

6 00 BAHAMADAM (EJ Houghton) 33/1, C5 2YO Maiden, 6F, Good

EJ HaughtonThis was the second of an across the card treble for the trainer, and certainly the most impressive winner of the three. The filly ran out a comfy winner of what should be a strong enough maiden, running on very well and even relaxing in the final stages. Houghton knows she has a good one and is on the prowl for black type, but was still somewhat surprised at the composure of the run, especially after the paddock antics.

7 00 SEPTEMBER STARS (R Beckett) 8/13, C4 H’Cap, 1M0.5F, Good

This is the second time this filly has featured in this section, and the previous visit was only last week. Yet, this was again more noteworthy, and Jim Crowley was quick to get this across to Matt Chapman on ATR. Even if the race appears to be slightly weaker than last weeks outing, this was a lot more eye catching physically, with a 6L victory that could have been ten if properly stretched. Chapman stated that if Beckett does not get black type with her then he has failed and you’d have to agree. The horse is definitely on the up and at some speed too. She is definitely one to watch and could be out again very soon, with entries as early as Thursday.
