Monday 18 July – Runs of the Day

We were lucky enough to head to Windsor yesterday evening, for their weekly Monday card that regularly draws in the crowds and the majority of top local trainers. On the hottest day of the year so far, the large crowd enjoyed themselves thoroughly – helped massively by a lot of favourites getting home in front. Their were some top displays on the track at Windsor and it is here all of our ‘Runs of the Day’ come from. There was also action at Beverley and Ayr on the flat, but little blew us away from these.

Windsor:

6 15 MAKZEEM (R Charlton) 1/2, C5 Maiden, 1M2F, Good to Firm (Good in Places)

The well backed hot favourite duly delivered the goods in fine fashion in one of the easiest wins you’ll see all summer. Roger Charlton’s horse is in a completely different league to the rest of the field, and effortlessly made all before drawing clear at a canter and easing down quickly once the race was put to bed. He has been talked up by connections since his debut and this continued in the interviews post-race, overhearing Matt Chapman believing he could certainly make it as a Group horse potentially. Charlton is a master with these middle distance types and he looks here to have another smart one on his books.

7 50 GO ON GO ON GO ON (C Cox) 5/2, C3 H’Cap, 5F, Good to Firm

Clive CoxThe feature race of the evening was won nicely by the Cox and Kirby double act, and Clive Cox looks to have a progressive filly beginning to thrive on the track. The mark she raced of now appears to be very generous and you have to feel the handicapper may try to make amends. Whether this is enough to stop the progression for now is another matter all together. Adam Kirby gave her a simple, but effective ride – tracking the leaders before bursting clear to win assertively in a competitive race. She is entered at Ascot and York this Friday if connections feel she is ready to go again.

8 20 FASHION PARADE (C Hills) 5/2, C4 Fillies H’Cap, 1M3.5F, Good to Firm

Fashion Parade - WindsorCharlie Hills filly looked unsettled entering the straight but soon showed this was nothing serious and quickly regained control and easing back into contention a long the rail. She is really starting to come on and any step up in trip has brought about results. She stayed on to win very gamely suggesting going further again would only reap further rewards. A nice performance to suggest a grade or two up will be the next port of call.
