Thursday 7 July – Runs of the Day

A fantastic day’s racing headlined by the magnificent Newmarket, hosting the first day of it’s annual July Festival. On Ladies Day the crowds were vast, helped by the weather being kind, and the action on the track duly delivered. Carlisle and Doncaster also raced during the afternoon, before Newbury and Epsom closed the days brilliant action.

Newmarket:

4 55 EASY VICTORY (SB Suroor) 11/2, C4 2YO Fillies Maiden, 6F, Good to Firm

Saeed bin SuroorThis was an impressive win for a variety of reasons, none more so than it being on debut and in what will undoubtedly prove to be a strong race in the near future. There are already quotes being thrown around for next years 1000 Guineas. This beautifully bred filly out of DUBAWI holds entires in all the big 2YO events towards the end of the summer. She clearly has bags of potential of which some was already on show today with a cosy enough victory.

5 30 LUMIERE (M Johnston) 3/1, Listed 3YO, 1M, Good to Firm

LumiereThis was easily one of the highlights of this season so far for me and was a joy to watch time and time again. Any doubts lingering over the mile trip were squashed in an instant and Mark Johnston’s talk of regrets around the over training of her before the Guineas seem to be more astute than first appeared. However, Johnston will be massively relieved to have his star back to her brilliant best, even if this race would not surprise me if the form does not read back to be the best in the coming months. However, I am hugely excited about what the remainder of the season may hold for LUMIERE.
