Ireland, as normal, held the best of the action on Sunday as in Britain racing is on the whole a much quieter affair. Limerick and Naas held respectable cards, with more low key racing on the flat at Ayr and some summer jumping at Market Rasen.
2 25 THE BEGUM (R Beckett) 8/11, C5 Maiden, 1M2F, Good to Soft
THE BEGUM easily justified her odds and strong market support to romp home by 10L. Although the field was small and its strength questionable, the Godolphin runner was quietly fancied and the 10L margin was about as decisive as it could have been. THE BEGUM made a promising start on debut behind ULYSSES and Ralph Beckett will now want to turn this filly into another useful middle-distance horse for the yard.
