There were a number of nice cards on Thursday, on various tracks and ground conditions. Through the afternoon Haydock was racing on soft ground, whilst Yarmouth were on good to firm. The English summer at its best it would seem. Newbury and Epsom both held evening racing and there were some competitive handicaps with a few ‘Novice’ races between the two. There was a number of winners today that won by huge margins and although it would be easy to slot these all straight in here, that is not what this section is all about. We are concerned with horses to keep an eye for short-term and long-term consequences.
1 50 NOBLY BORN (J Gosden) 4/6, C4 2YO Novices, 6F, Good to Firm
NOBLY BORN was a cosy winner in the famous Chevely Park colours, drawing clear a couple of furlongs out whilst never being threatened and Frankie Dettori finishing on hands and heels. He clearly needed his first run and has come on hugely for this. It is noticeable how small the horse is, and there must still be some growing to do. Although some may be concerned that NOBLY BORN was a second slower than the winner of the next heat, it must be remembered he was far from ridden out fully and still comfortably beat some steady juvenile form in JACQUARD.
